Our first holiday Easter in this new city was low key, but interesting. After church, we decided to go to the Tidal Basin to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival while the trees were in full bloom. We have heard so much about them, and had seen that there is a festival to go along with the event. We had no other Easter plans, so we thought it could be fun.
I thought it would be a slower day at the National Mall, due to the holiday. Dustin thought it would be busy. I was sorely mistaken, and realized I was not in Arkansas anymore, with a large crowd meeting us pretty soon after getting off the metro. I am glad that we did not “marriage bet” on that fact. The hype of the blossoms was not an exaggeration, so the crowds were worth it.
The only disappointment of the day was the horrible and expensive food truck food at the National Mall. No pictures and a chosen decision to forget that part, as it was just awful. And I am a huge fan of food truck food so you can imagine my disappointment.
However, we enjoyed the day and I recommend a visit to the National Mall when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. (Just look further outside of the National Mall for the food choices!! Eastern Market has great options, and so does the downtown area.)
Update: We have been back to the Tidal Basin for full bloom and the Cherry Blossom Festival 2 more times. Read here for another visit we had.
