Saturdays in DC: Art + Tacos + Books

Saturdays in DC are amazing…  However, in the summer it is insanely busy and hot.  Since we both work during the week, the weekends are fo exploring.

This particular weekend we walked the National Gallery of Art on the National Mall, walked to Capital Hill for some food, and decided to catch the last tour of the Library of Congress.  It was a full day, but totally worth it.  The National Gallery of Art has 2 different buildings: the East and the West.  One building is modern art, and the other is everything else.  They are connected underground by a tunnel with a really interesting light display.  We saw everything from a fountain from the gardens of Versailles to some Degas paintings.

We spent just about an hour in both buildings as we became quite hungry and a hungry Davis’ is not wanting to look at art anymore.  We headed toward Capital Hill for some Mexican food from a new place to us called Santa Rosa.  Coming from Little Rock (the heart of the cheese dip/ queso world) we have missed some solid Tex-Mex and cheese dip.  While we liked this place, we are still on the prowl.  There are so many places to still try.

After a quick 5 minute walk from lunch, we arrived for the last tour of the day at the Library of Congress.  While it is free, it is first come first serve.  We arrived about 30 minutes early and were glad we did.  You wait in a security line, follow the signs to the lower level, and arrive to a small waiting area with benches for the tour.

The tour itself is supposed to be about an hour, but our guide was so detailed we ditched the tour after about 2 hours.  I love history, but even I was done.  The architecture and history of the place is so amazing, I highly recommend.  As a person who grew up with their nose always in a book, I was in awe of seeing the collection of Thomas Jefferson’s original contribution to create the Library of Congress.

I cannot say enough how excited I am to visit some of these places again when it is the off season; when the crowds are down. We are taking a week in October for a staycation when some friends come into town, so we hope that week will be a week of re exploring some places like these that week!

On that note we have a YouTube Channel now in which we will try to start uploading some videos of what we are up to in the future!  We do have a short video up about this day. Check it out: Let’s Do Awkward Together

Hope you have an awesome Labor Day weekend!
