Last weekend we, as a party of 3, decided the weather was too nice to stay indoors. We jumped in the car and headed for the River Market area of downtown. No plan (which drove our #3 CRAZY), just a few ideas.
While Dustin and I did a “tour” of downtown on the blog before, child definitely changes how you look at the world around you, and looking at our city for things to do is no exception. Where before we looked for hip/ hole in the wall restaurants, now we look for parks with playgrounds. Where before we walked where we pleased, now we avoid certain streets because the ice cream store is there… battles not ready to be fought are avoided until later.
We really just wandered around, stopping anywhere that seemed remotely interesting or worthwhile. We started on the pedestrian bridge. It took some convincing of our #3 that walking on the bridge or riding the elevator up was not a decision of sudden death. When she finally did do it, she seemed to really enjoy herself. Dustin and I saw that people have started putting locks on the bridge like they do in Paris. I thought it was so sweet and made a mental note to bring one next time. Cause you know, we live here and Paris is far.
We then headed toward a really cool playground with tunnels, climbing walls, and slides. Sad part is the strong urine smell that was present in most of these areas… I gave props to dustin who did army crawl through the child size tunnels with #3. He is a positive person all the time, and the look on his face after was “NEVER AGAIN!” He would do anything for #3, though.
I would like to say we headed straight home and showered after that, but we pushed through. Deciding that ice cream and a bathroom to wash up would suffice. We arrived to a moderate line at Kilwins. When we left there was a massive made its way outside line. Thankful for timing!
While the wanderlust side of me is still very real, days like this make staying in Arkansas a really awesome choice.
